ECOCLUBS MEXICO
HANDS UNITED FOR LIFE |
Mission: "Promote
the conservation of natural resources and improve the
population´s quality of life."
Vision: "Generate
spaces of leadership where skill-building, awareness-raising
and youth organisation is promoted with the aim of
motivating them to get involved in their community´s
problems and actively participate by implementing
planned activities."
|
|
|
Ecoclub
objectives:
-
Contribute to taking care
of and conserving the Environment and Natural
Resources through youth leadership.
-
Encourage a culture that
respects and looks after the environment and natural
resources among youths organised in Ecoclubs.
-
Strengthen the Network of
Ecoclubs in the Reserve and its areas of influence
by promoting the incorporation and training of new
members and groups.
-
Solicit the necessary
resources to carry out activities.
|
|
Ecoclub achievements :
-
Active community participation in separating
recyclables.
-
Community participation in reforestation campaigns
that are carried out every year: delivering trees,
supervising that they are planted and cared for.
More that 20,000 trees have been delivered to
communities.
-
Campaigns
to clean up rivers, lakes, water pools, springs etc.
-
As part of our awareness-raising, we have traced and
painted more than 200 posters with environmental
messages, wich we then strategically hang in
environmentally problematic areas.
-
We have painted 3 wall murals about the need to
recycle waste, 5 on looking after water, 5 murals
and 5 awnings on preventing forest fires, which are
then hung in strategic locations.
-
We have managed to position our youths´ work on
national and international levels by participating
in woking meetings, forums, workshop, courses etc.
-
To celebrate World Environment Day, every year the
Ecoclub youths call local people (especially young
children) to participate in the Plastic Bottle
Marathon. Over the last few years, they have
collected around 250,000 plastic bottles through
this activity alone.
-
We have handed out more than 11,000
informative leaflets and hung up 11,000 posters
about recycling in communities where Ecoclubs are
working.
-
In the recyclabes collection campaigns, we have
collected 12, 000
sacks of plastic bottles, glass, tins, etc.
-
The Ecoclub youths won the State Youth Prize in the
area of the environment.
|
Essence… The
ecoclubs form part of a network of children and youth volunteers
within the Sierra Gorda Ecological Group and the Sierra
Gorda Biosphere Reserve. They are organised groups that
carry out activities in the community in order to improve the population´s
quality of life. |
 |
 |
What are
they searching for? Solutions to environmental problems
in different places. The Ecoclub movement promotes the
training of community leaders who help develop their local
communities. In addition, it encourages participative and sustainable strategies which
are constantly measured.
|
