During its 17 years of work, the Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda has assured that the conservation of natural resources is accompanied by a social development strategy. Benefits and opportunities have been generated for forest communities, which are now in a position to sustainably use their natural resources.

This strategy of combining resource protection with sustainable use has created a demand for quality technical assistance, monitoring, and development of forestry management proposals. Bosque Sustentable, A.C. was created to meet these service demands and offer productive diversification options.

Formed in 2001, Bosque Sustentable inherited the knowledge and resources acquired by the Grupo Ecológico, including broad knowledge of the region and its people, and numerous contacts with the community, the private sector and government institutions. This inheritance has enabled Bosque Sustentable to obtain growing community participation and organization, which are basic conditions for its successful work.

Bosque Sustentable also has responsibilities for carrying out important parts of the Biodiversity Conservation in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve project, including restoration, conservation, forestry management and use, soil protection and sustainable productive alternatives.
